The WayBackMachine is a really cool site. You can look back at how sites used to look as far back as 1996. Of course, viewing this site is not all that interesting because i only started in 2002 and the style has changed only minimally over the last three years. You can, however, see
I booked my driving theory test this week via the Internet. Actually, that is one area where I feel as if I can mark Labour up on their score-card. I've managed to get a driving license, a passport and book a driving test without having to leave my site. I'm glad the government is putting money in to providing these services. I suppose it make sense, after all, getting someone to type the details from a form on to a computer is costly, I imagine, by digitising the process they pawn off that work to the person who's requesting the application. I expect that as the uptake of these online services grows they will start to deliver considerable savings to government departments.
Anyway, back on topic. I accidentally booked my driving test theory for Friday the 13th of May, not that I'm superstitious or anything, but sometimes it's better to err on the side of caution. If I pass the theory then it can only be a matter of time before I pass the driving test proper; and that day will not only mark the completion of a key new-years resolution but it will shave two hours of my daily commute. That has to be something to look forward too
In other Simon related news, I've had to turn off my IMAP account for me@ckwop.me.uk and redirect mail sent to it on to my Gmail account because of the amount spam I'm getting. I was going to migrate my mail to Gmail anyway because of the ability to search old e-mails quickly and the huge amount of space they give you and just because Gmail is just generally cool anyway.
It's been a long time since I've had a proper SiNews post primarily because my life, by all accounts, is a fairly eventless affair but in the last few weeks have been there's quite a lot going on at the moment and I figured I'd like to share some of these events with you. In conclusion, tomorrow is the start of the bank-holiday weekend so I'd like to finish by wishing everyone a good weekend..
Simon.
